South Greene's Burkey Wins Indoor Track State Title

At the Tennessee Indoor Track and Field State Championships on Sunday at Vanderbilt University in Nashville South Greene's Hunter Burkey claimed the state title in the high jump.

Burkey cleared a height of 1.85 meters, which in approximately six feet, to claim the championship. Sam Fisher of Lipscomb was second, John Bass of Ravenwood third and Aiden Carter of Brentwood was fourth, all cleared 1.80 meters.

Burkey jumped 5'10" at last year's TSSAA Class A State Meet to finish in fifth place. Earlier in the indoor season Burkey cleared a personal best 6'2".

On Sunday Burkey also ran a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing in 9.13 seconds to place 16th.

South Greene's Kieley Smith also competed in Sunday's Indoor State Championship. She placed 19th in the long jump with a leap of 14'5.5".
