Greeneville 80, Claiborne 45
Greeneville's Lauren Bailey crossed a major career milestone on Tuesday night, scoring her 2,000th career point, as the Lady Devils improved to 5-0 in District 2-3A play with a 80-45 win over Claiborne.
The Lady Devils jumped on top of Claiborne quickly and took a commanding 30-12 lead after one quarter of action. Bailey hit two three pointers and scored 11 points in the period while Tambryn Ellenburg hit from behind the arc three times for a nine-point first quarter.
Bailey led the Lady Devils' offense with 19 points. Ellenburg hit six three-pointers to score 18 points. Anna Shaw was 6-for-6 from the field to scored 13 points. As a team Greeneville shot a red-hot 67 percent from the field.
Hannah Fugate scored 22 of Claiborne's 45 points.
Chuckey-Doak 47, Happy Valley 46
The Chuckey-Doak girls played neck-and-neck with Happy Valley on Tuesday night, but came out on the right side of a one-point game to earn a 47-46 win.
The Lady Knights went into the second half trailing 27-22, but they swung in front by only allowing the Lady Warriors to score six points in the third quarter.
On offense Faith Yokley scored seven points in the period for the Lady Knights as they took a 34-33 lead to go into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter the Lady Knights got five points from Saniah Atchison and four from Kennedy Brown as they did enough to hold onto their one-point lead and the win.
Atchison finished with a team-high 15 points while Yokely had 12 points for Chuckey-Doak.
Chuckey-Doak improves to 5-1 in District 1-2A play with the win.
Former Devil, Painter, Sets Bowling Mark at Union
Former Greeneville High School bowler David Painter set a Union College program record on Saturday when he rolled a round of 273 for the Bulldogs at the Lynne Jordan Memorial Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky.
Painter's 276 was the second best round at the tournament behind a 279 from Lindenwood's Emmanuel McPherson. Painter finished 28th overall at the tournament with a 995 total pins for the tournament. As a team Union finished 14th out of 25 teams.
