South Greene’s Clark, Friese Earn Trips To Spring Fling

At the East Region Class A Pentathlon at Hardin Valley Academy on Monday South Greene’s Ava Clark and Natalie Friese finished first and second respectively.

By placing in the top two both athletes earn spots in the state pentathlon which will be held on May 18 at Brentwood High School.

Clark and Friese are the first local athletes to qualify for the Spring Fling where the TSSAA hosts state championships for baseball, softball, soccer, track and field and tennis.


Greeneville 5, Cocke County 0

Gage Spano tossed a one hitter on Monday to lead Greeneville to a 5-0 win over Cocke County in the first game of a double header.

Spano struck out 13, walked none and gave up just one hit, a single in the fifth inning, in a complete game effort.

At the plate Greeneville earned six hits with Parker Shipley going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple an RBI and a run scored.

Ty Casteel and Colton Richards both had doubles for Greene Devils.

Greeneville 17, Cocke County 0

In the second game of Monday’s double header Greeneville pounded out 16 hits to earn a 17-0 win over Cocke County.

Richards led Greeneville’s bats by going 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. Shipley was 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Carson Quillen was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, Ty Cateel was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Preston Justice was 2-for-3 with a double, and Kobe Mundy was 2-for-3.

On the mound Richards tossed a four-inning no-hitter. He struck out nine and walked two.


South Greene 14, Grainger 4

The South Greene softball team earned an 14-4 win over Grainger on Monday.

The Lady Rebels earned 11 hits in their victory with Whitney Casteel going 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Anna Willett went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Evie Rader and Allison Penley each had a home run for South Greene.

In the circle Mallory Fillers threw 1 2/3 innings with one strikeout and six hits allowed.

Anna Willett threw the 3 1/3 innings in relief with two strikeouts and three hits allowed.

Daniel Boone 5, Greeneville 3

The Greeneville softball team fell to Daniel Boone 5-3 on Monday.

The Lady Devils earned seven hits on Monday with Lauren Million and Kyla Jobe both going 2-for-3. Ella Moore and Kaley Bradley each had a double for Greeneville.

In the circle Leah Phillips struck out one, walked three and gave up hits.
