After helping their team advance to the state semifinals for the eighth straight season three Greeneville soccer players have earned All-State recognition from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.
Senior defender Molly Hartman, senior midfielder Annemarie Konieczny and junior forward Anna Shaw were all selected to the Class AA All-State Team by the TSWA.
Koniecznzy earned All-State recognition for the second time after spending her senior season directing the Lady Devils' offense from the midfield. She led the Lady Devils with 24 goals on the season while assisting on nine more. Even more importantly she was often responsible for flipping the field and getting the Lady Devils' attack started with her precise passing from the middle of the field.
Konieczny scored 10 of her goals in the postseason with two coming in the state quarterfinals against Dyersburg. She was named the Region 1-AA MVP and the District 1-AA Offensive Player of the Year.
Hartman had the tough task of taking over as the leader of an inexperienced defensive unit. The Lady Devils graduated three starters on the backline and their goalie, but under Hartman's leadership the group made big strides over the course of the season. She helped Greeneville to five shutouts while aiding the attack with five goals of her own. With Hartman leading the way the Lady Devils gave up only 14 goals to Class AA opponents this season, six of those came in the state tournament.
Shaw was Greeneville's most dangerous presence at the top of the formation this season and accounted for 23 goals and 12 assists. As the year went on her role changed when opponents became aware of her shooting ability and focused their defenses on her. She learned to draw in those defenders and became quite skilled at setting up her teammates for scoring opportunities. One of her most impressive moments came in a state sectional win over Halls where she had two goals and three assists.
