Monday afternoon saw Greeneville and Chuckey-Doak get together at Olympia Lanes to close out the regular season portion of their schedule with both the Devils and Lady Devils collecting wins.
In boys’ action, Chuckey-Doak jumped out to an early 6-2 advantage by 83 pins (1006-923) as Daniel Worley rolled a 197, Joseph Cole a 193, and Blake Cox a 186. Greeneville’s top scorers were Jayden Key with a 237 and Grant Litchfield a 160. As the teams headed into the Baker games, both teams looked to establish momentum and push towards a big win to close out the season. The Greene Devils would claim the first game 198-147 and cut into the Black Knights' lead. Game two and three would see Greeneville pick up wins (153-143 and 181-180) to tie the match up at 6-6. Greeneville would close out the match by sweeping the last two games 184-162 and 183-170 to claim the 17-6 win and claim the No.3 seed in the upcoming regional tournament in January. Chuckey-Doak fell to the No.4 seed.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Devils jumped out to a commanding 7-1 advantage behind Bethanie Bryant’s 183 and Addison Phillips’ 139. The Lady Knights were paced by Sara Shirey-Wirt’s 150. Greeneville would extend their lead to 9-7 as they would take the first Baker game 130-125. Chuckey-Doak, however, would not go away quietly, as they would take the next two (138-115 and 116-95) to cut the deficit to 9-5. The final two games would go the Lady Devils’ way 121-112 and 138-87, giving them the 18-5 win and the No.3 seed in the tournament.
