Morristown West 62, Chuckey-Doak 16

Morristown West applied pressure for the length of the floor for all four quarter on Wednesday morning, and it kept Chuckey-Doak from finding any type of offense in a 62-16 loss in the Andrew Johnson Bank Ladies Classic.

The Lady Trojans scored the first 10 points of the contest using the quick hands of point guard Mia Dinkins to regain possession and then distribute. Delaney Weddington was the beneficiary of a pair of those transition buckets while Kaylee Dyke capped the run with jumper from the elbow following a steal by Aubrie Messer.

Hayleigh Taylor got Chuckey-Doak on the board with two points from the block, but then West’s lead grew to 18-2. Weddington scored four more points, while Leah Watson finished another steal by Messer.

Morristown West swiped 13 steals on Wednesday and forced the Lady Knights into 33 turnovers.

The first quarter closed with the Lady Trojans leading 23-5.

Morristown West’s defense got even better in the second quarter as it shut down the Lady Knights for all eight minutes. The Lady Trojans were not as quick to turn turnovers into points and only scored four points through the first 5:30, but they closed with points in the paint from Messer, Weddington and Dinkins for a 33-5 halftime lead.

West started the third with a trio of triples, two coming from Dinkins and one from Dyke as the lead grew to 42-5.

Chuckey-Doak was able to get some offense going in the period with Tavyn Southerland scoring four points while Taliah Johnson and Hayleigh Hensley put in three points each.

Despite that West led 48-16 going into the final period.
