The South Greene Lady Rebels had no problem with the Pigeon Forge Lady Tigers in the Region 1-2A quarterfinals, winning 79-36 on their home floor Friday night behind a triple-double from Hailey Brooks triple.
Brooks got things started with a corner three, the first of five three pointers for the Lady Rebels in the first quarter. Haley Susong hit back-to-back triples and Brooks stepped in front of an errant pass and went for a snowbird layup. It was all South Greene early, leading 16-1 mid way through the first quarter.
Susong hit her third triple of the quarter from the corner, and then sank one just inside the arc that put the Lady Rebs up 27-8 at the end of the first quarter.
To open the second play was a little sluggish on both ends of the court until Madison Hensley broke free for a layup. Then seconds later Kortnei Bailey pulled up in the lane for a short jumper. Bailey then struck from the deep corner for a triple, and Ari Hoese put the Lady Rebels up 20 at 36-16 with an up and under layup . The Lady Rebels would go on to build a 42-16 halftime lead.
The third quarter saw South Greene hit five more of their 15 three-pointers on the night and stretch the lead out to 66-30.
In the fourth quarter Coach Stephen Gregg put in a fresh five to finish out the game and the win 79-36.
The Lady Rebs go 9 and 10 deep almost every game so it’s hard to call them the reserves or the bench, Coach Gregg said, "Yeah, they were pretty fun to watch tonight, we had as a team, 23 assists on 27 made baskets”.
The Lady Rebels put five players in double digits. Bailey lead all scorers with 14, while Susong and Hensley had 13 each, Ryleigh had Gregg 12 points and Brooks finished with 11 points to go along with 10 assists and 11 steals giving her her fist triple-double.
Brooks said of her triple-double, "I didn’t know it on the court, they told me in the locker room, I couldn’t believe it. The locker room was wild, I love my teammates…they’re so supportive."
Gregg said “Yeah, they got pretty excited there."
