Chuckey-Doak faced off against West Greene for the third time this season and came away with an 81-65 win over the Buffaloes in the semifinals of the District 1-2A Tournament.

“We got out of control at times, but I thought that’s the best we’ve come out from the start in a while. We couldn’t have played much better,” Black Knights Head Coach Sam Broyles said.

Leyton Frye dropped a game-high 33 points, but four players scoring in double figures and two twenty-plus-point performances from Cadin Tullock and Christian Derry helped move Chuckey-Doak into the championship game with South Greene on Tuesday night.

In usual Chuckey-Doak fashion they wasted no time putting points on the board.

Cadin Tullock stripped the net for a three-pointer on the opening possession. Isaiah Treadway came away with a steal on the defensive end and broke loose for a layup. Christian Derry muscled his way to his first of many layups inside the paint. The Black Knights jumped ahead 7-0 inside the first two minutes.

Ethan Turner caught the ball on the free throw line and turned to hit a mid-range jump shot to get the Buffs moving in the right direction. Mason McCamey tipped the ball out on a defensive rebound that led to a layup for Leyton Frye.

Two layups from Christian Derry put Chuckey-Doak up by ten points halfway through the first.

Leyton Frye grabbed his own miss on a long rebound and made sure to make his second attempt from the mid-range.

Brock Rush played one of his better games offensively and provided 12 points in the win. He sprinted through the paint for a layup and got a mid-range jumper to fall next for a four-point first quarter.

“Brock played good defense tonight on Frye and took care of the ball. He had 12 points and Brock came in and really helped us out tonight when we needed it,” Broyles said.

Dillon Shelton cut to the basket for a layup and Cadin Tullock fired away from behind the three-point line for a triple.

Dawson Daniels dropped a baseline jumper through the net on West Greene’s last possession of the quarter.

Isaiah Treadway received the next inbounds pass with less than five seconds on the clock and had to sprint up court to get a shot off. The junior guard somehow got a running three-pointer to drop at the buzzer while falling to the ground.

Chuckey-Doak’s lead grew to 27-11 at the end of the first.

Mason McCamey sank a two-point shot and Ethan Turner knocked down a three-point bomb to try and pull the Buffs back within reach.

Ethan Grindstaff had the ball tipped out to him along the perimeter and sank a three-point basket.

Ethan Turner crashed the offensive glass for a layup.

Christian Derry decided it was his turn to take over again with four-straight points in the paint. Ethan Grindstaff’s put back gave the Knights their biggest lead up to this point at 38-20.

Leyton Frye sent a bullet pass to Turner in the paint for a quick layup. Frye added a layup of his own on the last possession of the half.

Chuckey-Doak led 44-26 at the break.

Christian Derry dominated the paint in the first half with 12 points to lead the Black Knights. Ethan Turner and Christian Derry battled in the paint all night and both got the best of each other with both players scoring twenty plus.

“Turner is physical. He’s a strong kid and he gives it everything he’s got. Christian knows it’s a physical game when he plays against Ethan Turner,” Coach Broyles mentioned.

Derry started off the third quarter with another layup to put things in motion for a runaway victory.

Isaiah Treadway scored four-straight at the rim and lifted off for an athletic alley-oop layup on an inbounds pass under the basket. He had a solid night running the point and putting in 18 points.

After falling behind by 22 points, West Greene managed to go on a 12-2 run to put themselves back within a few possessions of the lead.

Leyton Frye started the run with a mid-range jumper and Conner Campbell followed with a layup. Frye ran a fast break to success with a layup off the glass to cut their deficit to twelve at 52-40.

A pair of three-point bombs from Cadin Tullock and Brock Rush put more cushion in Chuckey-Doak‘s lead. The Black Knights held a 64-47 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Austin Wampler missed his first attempt but rebounded his own miss and floated the ball through the net for his first two points of the night. Frye’s speed and finishing ability at the rim helped him to secure two and-one plays in the fast break game.

Christian Derry and Cadin Tullock helped fuel Chuckey-Doak through the first three quarters and did the same in the fourth combining for 11 of their 17 points in the final frame.

The Black Knights ran away with an 81-65 win over the Buffs to secure their spot in the championship game.

Cadin Tullock poured in 22 points while Christian Derry piled up 21 points. Isaiah Treadway provided 18 points and Brock Rush scored 12 points.

Leyton Frye dropped a game-high 33 points in the loss while Ethan Turner contributed with 20 points.

Chuckey-Doak and South Greene will play for the Three Rivers Conference Championship on Tuesday night with tip-off set for 7:30. West Greene will meet Johnson County in the third-place consolation game prior at 6:00.

“South Greene is a hard matchup for us but that doesn’t mean that we can’t beat them. We’ll give it everything we’ve got,” Coach Broyles expressed.
