ELIZABETHTON – The North Greene softball team started the District 1-1A tournament on Monday with an 8-1 win over Cloudland at Happy Valley High School.
All eight North Greene runs came across in the third inning. The side started with a trio of bunts by Heidi Harmon, Zoe Sanders and Kessie Antonelli that were helped by a pair of errors that loaded the bases.
Cambell Gaby knocked in the first two runs when she pounded a line drive into centerfield.
Haley Bailey then hit into an error that scored Antonelli. Anna Weems moved the score to 4-0 when she flew a single to right field.
Paysli Randolph put down a bunt single to score Bailey from third and Sanders got an RBI single past the shortstop to reach base for the second time in the inning.
Antonelli knocked in the final two runs when she smacked a groundball through the right side for an 8-0 lead.
As a team North Greene earned nine hits on Monday with Weems going 2-for-3. Harmon scored two runs while Gaby and Antonelli each had two RBIs.
Gaby tossed the first three innings on Monday. She struck out seven, walked one and gave up one hit.
Kylee Jones threw the final four innings with one strike out, no walks and seven hits allowed.
The Lady Huskies advance to the winners bracket finals on Tuesday where they will play Unaka at 7 p.m. at Happy Valley. Cloudland will play Hampton in an elimination game at 5:30 p.m.
